This new international circularity benchmark helps manufacturers like us share clear, trustworthy information about how our products are made, used and reused. It’s about transparency, circularity and taking real steps to design with the full life of a product in mind.
What is ISO 59040?
ISO 59040 is a global standard that supports the creation of what’s known as a Product Circularity Data Sheet (PCDS). In simple terms, it’s a structured way of showing how circular a product is. That includes everything from where the materials come from, to how easy it is to repair, reuse, or recycle the piece at the end of its life.
This matters because furniture is changing. Clients, designers and end-users all want to know more: not just what something looks like, but what it’s made of, how long it’ll last, and what happens to it afterwards.
What it means for deadgood
This dc Silver Accreditation recognises the way we already work. We’ve always designed for longevity. We’ve always believed in honest materials. We’ve never followed fast trends. This standard helps us show that thinking clearly, in a format that can be trusted across the industry.
It also lays the groundwork for something called a Digital Product Passport, a way to carry forward key information about a product throughout its life, from manufacturing to maintenance to reuse. It’s coming soon to our sector, especially under new EU sustainability laws. Getting ahead now means we’re ready to meet those expectations head-on.
Why we’re doing it
Words like ‘sustainable’ only matter when they’re backed up by something solid. Our furniture is made to matter, to be kept, cared for, and used for years. That doesn’t need shouting about. It does need showing. That’s what this is.
We’re building furniture with personality. This just adds more depth to the story behind each piece.
deadgood by name. deadgood by nature.
