Ziglam & Brook is a creative studio set up by the two Deadgood Directors - Dan Ziglam & Elliot Brook.
1 Describe yourself..?
Elliot (Right): I am a mild mannered gentleman with a slightly eccentric and over indulgent personality, sometimes prone to exaggeration and naturally inclined to jump in two feet first.
Dan (Left): I am an energetic and open minded, mixed blood creature who in no particular order likes running, swimming, cooking, eating, laughing and dancing in the kitchen whilst drinking beer. I’m tall and mostly focused, calm and peaceful although sometimes I can be mischievous and intense. I have a passion for nature and I also enjoy the good things in life.
2 What is Deadgood?
E: It's my dream turning into a reality. It’s the reason I get up in the morning and it’s part of the reason why I can’t sleep at night.
D: Eternal delight, to know how to do something well and enjoy doing it.
3 Tell us 5 things you like…
E: My Montblanc Bohème ballpoint pen, the ‘Bodies’ exhibition at the South Seaport Centre in New York,
De La Vega International – “Become Your Dream!”, Rob Da Bank and Friends in the wee small hours of a
Monday morning and finally, although it should have maybe been first, my beautiful wife!
D: Bic four ink retractable pens, New York City, Jack Kerouac, Utagawa Kuniyoshi and National Geographic
Publications.
Dan Ziglam and Elliot Brook graduated from Northumbria University’s ‘Three Dimensional Design’ course in July 2003. The design entrepreneurs soon set about forming Deadgood with a vision to develop an internationally recognised British design brand, respected throughout the industry for approaching things differently, expressing its unique creativity and producing products that people will love.
Their first range of furniture ‘The Form Collection’ was launched in 2005 and instantly gained industry recognition, winning awards from the Crafts Council and One Year On. Since then Dan & Elliot have showcased their work at various exhibitions across the world, including exhibitions in New York, London, Cologne, Paris, Stockholm, Milan and Newcastle. They continue to develop exciting new products working
closely with a network of specialist manufacturers across the UK.
Alongside setting up Deadgood the pair have also pursued an altruistic approach to promoting and supporting the next generation of young designers, setting up an annual regional design exhibition
called ‘Launch’, in the North east of England, alongside delivering their self titled ‘Enterprise in Design’ lecture
series within Northumbria University’s School of Design. The pair also run their own design studio, Ziglam &
Brook, which develops exclusive products for Deadgood and also works to commission on a variety of exciting
creative projects.
